The TSA is literally teaching kids to submit to... →
CLP’s Ken Wooden explains that telling children they are participating in a game “is one of the most common ways” for sexual predators to engage them in inappropriate contact. Likewise, because children “don’t have the sophistication” to differentiate between the pat-down at the airports and sexual assault, the TSA procedures are setting a dangerous precedent for those who experience the...

Anti-Santa bus driver gets new route This time of year it’s not only reading, writing, and arithmetic that’s on a child’s mind, the most prominent topic is that once-a-year list for the jolly man with the rosy cheeks and white beard; one Norwalk bus driver was moved to a different route after allegedly telling a child that that man, Santa Clause, does not exist. OS X 10.7 Lion -- definitely not work the headache
I made the mistake of upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion. I had no good reason to do it, other than that I prefer the new style of dialog buttons. Bad move. It has serious issues with its NVidia graphics drivers, and WindowServer crashes (which means you get booted to the log-in screen and all your apps are terminated). Sad.

Wow.. they want you to: Research the potential renter using FACEBOOK, in addition to the airbnb site.. no personal references, though.. Keep one night’s rent (what, $20?) as a “security” deposit.. Apple store artist raided by Secret Service -... →
This surprises me; not that he did it, but that it became enough of an issue to warrant law enforcement activity. See, Apple uses Deep Freeze on the in-store demo Macs, which prevents data on the HD from being changed — after each reboot the machine is back to it’s original state, with any added software or files gone. Seems to me this store either fracked up their demo set-up, or they...

Oooh good! Minnesota has just effectively acknowledged that they aren’t going to be working on anything IT-related that’s non-critical, and even then only in special cases.. sounds like the right time to take advantage of known-issues that they won’t be patching in the DMV, OEMS, etc…..

Netflix needs to seriously rethink it's attitude →
Netflix doesn’t have email-based tech support, because they feel an all-phone system with real people is a more personal approach. Maybe, but at the moment their site is mostly down; the main page loads, but if you try to pull up the page for any TV show or movie you get a nice “Sorry, we’re fracked” error. Try calling the phone support, and you get “We are...

This is ridiculous. I can understand the father being obligated to take care of his kids morally, but not legally; or can an anonymous sperm donor be sued for child support, too? And as for the “simulation” of a signature, that’s still a criminal act. Seeing as the man has a new wife & kids, he ought to get full custody while the ex works off her debts — she lost any...

Razer customer service = ridiculous
I recently paid $9.99 for replacement Teflon feet for my mouse, a Razer Naga; these feet are designed to wear down, as this provides for maximum slick-slideyness, and I don’t mind having to purchase replacements a couple times a year, even if they do charge an additional $10 for regular shipping. The ones I just received, however, came with dried-out alcohol wipes, which wouldn’t be a...
